Read before you book

By accessing the Platform, creating an account, requesting a quotation, listing a travel service, making a booking or otherwise using Safari Market Place, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with these Terms, you should not use the Platform.

Important:

Safari Market Place acts as a marketplace and intermediary. The actual travel service is delivered by the identified Service Provider, and their specific conditions may also apply.

1. About Safari Market Place

Safari Market Place is a technology-driven Pan-African travel marketplace designed to connect travellers with safari operators, tour operators, Destination Management Companies (DMCs), accommodation providers, activity providers, transport providers, guides and other tourism suppliers across Africa.

Safari Market Place promotes access to authentic African travel experiences delivered by local tourism businesses and travel experts.

Unless expressly stated otherwise for a particular booking, Safari Market Place acts as a marketplace and intermediary and is not itself the operator or supplier of the travel services displayed on the Platform.

The actual travel services are provided by the tour operator, accommodation provider, transport provider, activity provider or other supplier identified in the booking confirmation (Service Provider).

2. Acceptance of these Terms

By using Safari Market Place, you confirm that:

  • You are legally capable of entering into a binding agreement;
  • The information you provide is accurate and complete;
  • You have read and accepted these Terms;
  • You agree to any additional booking conditions disclosed before payment or confirmation; and
  • Where you make a booking on behalf of other travellers, you are authorised to accept these Terms on their behalf.

3. How the marketplace works

Travellers may use Safari Market Place to:

  • Discover African destinations and experiences;
  • Request safari and holiday quotations;
  • Compare available travel options;
  • Communicate with participating operators;
  • Customise itineraries;
  • Book eligible travel services; and
  • Access other travel-related services offered through the Platform.

Safari Market Place may match a traveller’s request with one or more suitable Service Providers.

Receiving a quotation does not constitute a confirmed booking.

A booking becomes confirmed only when the applicable payment requirements have been satisfied and a booking confirmation has been issued.

4. Verified Safari Operators

Safari Market Place may designate certain suppliers as Verified Safari Operators or otherwise indicate that a supplier has undergone verification.

Verification may include reviewing:

  • Business registration documents;
  • Tourism licences;
  • Tax or regulatory documentation;
  • Business contact information;
  • Physical or operational presence;
  • Insurance documents where applicable;
  • Banking or payment information;
  • Industry memberships;
  • Customer reviews or references; and
  • Other information considered relevant by Safari Market Place.

Verification means that the supplier satisfied Safari Market Place’s verification requirements at the time of review.

Verification does not constitute a guarantee of the supplier’s future performance, financial position, safety standards or ability to fulfil every booking.

Safari Market Place reserves the right to request updated documentation, conduct additional checks, suspend verification or remove a supplier from the Platform.

5. Traveller responsibilities

Travellers are responsible for providing accurate information when requesting or confirming travel services.

This includes:

  • Correct traveller names;
  • Travel dates;
  • Passport information where required;
  • Nationality and residency information;
  • Number and ages of travellers;
  • Dietary requirements;
  • Medical or accessibility requirements relevant to service delivery; and
  • Any other information reasonably required to arrange the trip.

Costs resulting from incorrect or incomplete information supplied by a traveller may be charged to that traveller.

6. Quotations

Unless otherwise stated, quotations are provided subject to availability.

A quotation does not guarantee availability of accommodation, flights, safari vehicles, permits, activities or other travel services.

Prices may change before confirmation due to factors including:

  • Availability;
  • Exchange-rate fluctuations;
  • Government taxes;
  • Park and conservation fees;
  • Airline fares;
  • Fuel surcharges;
  • Accommodation rate changes;
  • Permit fees; or
  • Supplier price adjustments.

The price applicable at the time of confirmed booking will be communicated to the traveller.

7. Bookings

Before confirming a booking, travellers should carefully review:

  • The itinerary;
  • Travel dates;
  • Passenger details;
  • Accommodation;
  • Room categories;
  • Meal plans;
  • Transport arrangements;
  • Activities;
  • Inclusions;
  • Exclusions;
  • Price;
  • Deposit requirements;
  • Cancellation conditions; and
  • Any special conditions.

It is the traveller’s responsibility to notify Safari Market Place or the Service Provider of any errors before confirmation.

8. Payments

Payment requirements will be communicated during the booking process.

Depending on the booking, payment may be made through:

  • Approved online payment gateways;
  • Credit or debit cards;
  • Bank transfer;
  • Mobile payment;
  • Other approved payment methods.

Travellers should only make payments through payment instructions officially provided or authorised through Safari Market Place or the identified Service Provider.

Safari Market Place will never be responsible for payments made to unauthorised accounts or persons outside approved payment channels where the traveller knew or reasonably ought to have known that the payment instruction was unauthorised.

9. Deposits and balance payments

A deposit may be required to secure a reservation.

The applicable deposit amount and final payment deadline will be disclosed before confirmation.

Certain bookings may require full payment immediately.

Failure to pay the required balance by the specified deadline may result in cancellation of the booking and application of the relevant cancellation charges.

10. Service provider terms

Individual Service Providers may have their own booking and cancellation conditions.

These may include conditions imposed by:

  • Hotels and lodges;
  • Airlines;
  • National parks;
  • Conservancies;
  • Gorilla or trekking authorities;
  • Cruise companies;
  • Transport companies;
  • Activity providers; and
  • Other third-party suppliers.

Where such terms apply to a booking, they form part of the booking conditions.

If there is a conflict between these general Terms and specific supplier conditions relating directly to a travel service, the specific conditions disclosed for that service will apply to the extent permitted by applicable law.

11. Cancellations by the traveller

Cancellation requests should be submitted through the Platform or other authorised communication channel.

Cancellation charges will depend on the conditions applicable to the booking.

Some services may be:

  • Fully refundable;
  • Partially refundable;
  • Subject to cancellation penalties; or
  • Completely non-refundable.

Air tickets, park fees, permits, special-event accommodation and certain promotional rates may carry particularly restrictive cancellation conditions.

Safari Market Place will disclose applicable cancellation terms before booking wherever reasonably practicable.

12. Refunds

Where a refund is due, it will be processed according to the applicable booking and supplier conditions.

Refund amounts may be reduced by legitimate non-refundable supplier charges, cancellation fees, transaction costs or other charges disclosed in the applicable booking conditions and permitted by law.

Processing times may vary depending on the supplier, bank, payment processor and payment method.

Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory refund or cancellation rights available to a consumer under applicable law.

13. Changes by the traveller

Requests to change travel dates, passenger names, accommodation, activities or other confirmed arrangements are subject to availability.

Additional charges may apply.

Where a supplier does not permit amendments, cancellation and rebooking may be required.

14. Changes or cancellations by a Service Provider

Travel arrangements may occasionally be changed or cancelled because of operational circumstances.

Where a significant confirmed service cannot be provided, the responsible Service Provider may, subject to its booking conditions and applicable law:

  • Offer a reasonable alternative;
  • Reschedule the service;
  • Issue a credit;
  • Provide a refund where applicable; or
  • Offer another appropriate remedy.

Safari Market Place may assist travellers and Service Providers in communicating and resolving such matters but does not automatically assume the financial obligations of an independent Service Provider.

15. Booking Protection

Certain eligible bookings may be offered with Safari Market Place Booking Protection.

Where Booking Protection applies, the specific:

  • Scope of protection;
  • Eligibility requirements;
  • Maximum protection amount;
  • Exclusions;
  • Claim procedures;
  • Supporting documentation requirements; and
  • Payment or reimbursement conditions

will be disclosed separately.

The words Booking Protection do not create an unlimited money-back guarantee.

No booking should be considered protected unless it is expressly identified as eligible for Booking Protection.

16. Travel insurance

Travellers are strongly encouraged to purchase comprehensive travel insurance.

Appropriate cover may include:

  • Trip cancellation;
  • Medical emergencies;
  • Emergency evacuation;
  • Personal accident;
  • Lost or delayed baggage;
  • Travel delays;
  • Missed connections; and
  • Other travel-related risks.

Safari Market Place is not responsible for losses that could reasonably have been covered by appropriate travel insurance, subject always to applicable law.

Travellers are responsible for ensuring that they hold all documents required for their journey, including:

  • Valid passports;
  • Visas;
  • Transit visas;
  • Vaccination certificates;
  • Travel insurance where required;
  • Permits;
  • Parental consent documentation for minors; and
  • Other immigration or health documentation.

Visa and immigration decisions are made exclusively by the relevant government authorities.

Safari Market Place and participating operators cannot guarantee issuance of a visa or admission into any country.

18. Health and safety

Travel in Africa may involve remote destinations, wildlife, different climates, road travel and physically demanding activities.

Travellers are responsible for determining whether they are medically and physically capable of participating in their selected activities.

Travellers should obtain appropriate medical advice concerning vaccinations, medication and other health precautions before travelling.

Travellers must comply with reasonable safety instructions issued by guides, accommodation providers, park authorities and other Service Providers.

19. Wildlife experiences

Wildlife sightings occur in natural environments and therefore cannot be guaranteed.

Safari Market Place and Service Providers cannot guarantee sightings of specific animals, the Great Migration, river crossings, gorillas or any particular wildlife behaviour unless expressly stated otherwise.

Weather, wildlife movement and environmental conditions may affect itineraries.
